Oluyede’s confirmation on Thursday by the lawmakers was sequel to the review and approval of the report from the ad hoc committee that screened him on Wednesday.
The House of Representatives has confirmed Lt Gen Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Oluyede’s confirmation on Thursday by the lawmakers was sequel to the review and approval of the report from the ad hoc committee that screened him on Wednesday.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Senate had screened Oluyede behind closed doors.
It was learnt that the Senate Committee on the Army, chaired by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, conducted the screening in Room 211 of the Senate New Building at the National Assembly Complex on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday in a letter presented to the Senate, notified the national assembly of Oluyede’s nomination and sought his confirmation as the Chief of Army Staff.
The chairman of the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee, Babajimi Benson, presented the committee’s screening report, and noted that the committee had thoroughly examined Oluyede’s curriculum vitae, posed questions on national security matters, and found his responses satisfactory.
According to Benson, the committee was confident in Oluyede’s qualifications and suitability for the position of COAS, leading them to recommend his confirmation.
Following a clause-by-clause review of the report, the House through a voice vote unanimously approved Oluyede’s appointment as the new Chief of Army Staff.
