FUTA Students Block Akure-Ilesa Road, Protest Incessant Robbery Attacks

Scores of students from the Federal University of Technology Akure, located in Ondo State, took to the streets on Friday to protest against the alarming frequency of robbery attacks targeting them.

Reports indicate a disturbing trend of repeated robbery incidents targeting students residing off-campus within the university’s vicinity.

In response, the protesting students, chanting various solidarity songs, took to barricading the bustling Akure-Ilesa Road, leading to significant traffic congestion along the expressway.

Expressing their grievances, the students emphasized that the purpose of their protest was to draw urgent attention from the university management, governmental authorities, and law enforcement agencies to address the escalating security concerns posed by criminal elements.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that the police force had deployed personnel to the area to prevent the protest from being infiltrated by hoodlums, thus ensuring the safety of the demonstrators and maintaining public order.
